Community>Community Outreach
The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies promotes diversity, equity, and outreach through the hiring of faculty and staff of color and diverse backgrounds. Presently, most of our faculty, Administrative Coordinator, and student office workers are bilingual speakers of diverse backgrounds. We also admit, retain, and graduate students of color through our undergraduate and graduate programs. In 2008, twenty-six undergraduates received their B.A. through our program. Another way in which our program engages with and reaches out to diverse groups is through community advocacy, internships and research, transnational research and cultural exchanges, and by featuring members of the Chicano community as guest speakers in graduate forums and undergraduate classes. Some of our speakers have included:
- State Senator Diane Ducheny, California Legislature, 2006
